About ISA

Engineers for a Sustainable Tomorrow

As the trend of smart and digital technology development continues to move the world, engineers play a vital role in restoring the balance for the environment and driving effective sustainable solutions forward. The theme of this year's Chun Wo Student Innovation Awards (“CWISA”) is "Engineer for a Sustainable Tomorrow”. With the objective of inspiring young future engineers, CWISA encourages each participating team to propose innovative engineering solution, which is related to one of the following three important categories of promoting the world towards sustainable development. The winning team will have the opportunity to receive funding to nurture their innovative idea and put it into practice.

Sub-theme: Restoration
Numerous different facets related to the environment have been damaged over time by the actions of humans and climate change, therefore sustainable solutions with a long-term vision of environmental restoration are likely to make the most tangible and significant long-term impact.
Sub-theme: Conservation
Smart and digital technologies have allowed for new opportunities for engineers to leverage on data and develop engineering solutions to conserve energy usage, driving humanity's progress towards sustainable living, carbon-neutrality, and setting a positive example for communities at large.
Sub-theme: Symbiosis
Our relationships with certain technologies have severed many people from having a positive and sustainable attitude towards our environment, thus engineering solutions should not only bring about technological solutions that are sustainable and benefit the environment objectively, but also foster a caring relationship between humanity and the environment that is symbiotic in nature.

Background and Objectives

The CWISA is a biannual award established by Chun Wo Development Holdings Limited (Chun Wo) in 2018, which aims to empower the next generation of innovators and stimulate young minds to develop innovative engineering solutions that can help cities become more connected and sustainable.

The theme of the first CWISA in 2018 was “Engineers Save the World”, the teams participated in this Awards were required to address a sustainable development issue in a developing country according to the 17 sustainable development goals that United Nations has entered into force.

In 2020, CWISA was extended to the Greater Bay Area. It allows the full-time students of tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to participate in this Awards under the theme of “Engineer for a Smarter Future”, which encourages the students to build a smart city through an engineering approach.

Chun Wo believes engineering is one of the essential expertise that improves the living conditions of humankind and determines the future transformation of a city for people’s better livelihood.
