Award Winning Project

The Gold Award-winning Project

Project Name: Urban-eConsult
Institution: The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Project Overview:
Urban-eConsult is an automated application for urban planning and building inspection. It combines artificial intelligence, machine learning, drones application, computer vision and geographic information system, to monitor the condition of buildings and assess the urban heat island effects, allowing industry practitioners to formulate appropriate strategies for urban renewal. This application aims to address the time-consuming and costly issues associated with traditional building inspections.

Challenges Faced by the Team:
The Urban-eConsult project involves gathering and analysing data from various sources, such as high-resolution aerial images, computer vision, and geographic information. The team faced challenges of creating intricate algorithms to extract valuable insights from the data, and produce comprehensive environmental assessment reports to address the city's challenges.

Achievements during the Team’s Participation
During the competition, the team explored sustainable development principles and engineering concepts while gaining expertise in innovative technologies to tackle urban environmental challenges. This valuable knowledge will shape their future endeavors and enhance their project. They aim to apply the competition's lessons to upcoming projects, incorporating judges' feedback to improve their artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, and neural network algorithms. They will optimise drone path planning, design, and develop efficient methods for monitoring the heat island effect and detecting building cracks. These advancements will enable early identification of structural issues.

Vision for the Team:
The team members will aim to pursue their work in the realm of sustainable development. They will endeavor to seek collaboration with construction companies and contractors, in order to contribute to a more sustainable future.
